The Burning River 100-Mile Endurance Run takes place in Northeast Ohio, following a point-to-point course beginning in the North Chagrin Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks in Willoughby Hills, Ohio and finishing at Falls River Square in downtown Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The course traverses the Cleveland Metroparks, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and the Metroparks Serving Summit Country. The course surface consists of approximately 25 miles of paved road and Ohio & Erie Canal towpath, and 75 miles of dirt trails (bridal and single-track) with numerous river and creek crossings. There is approximately 18,000 feet of total ascent and descent from start to finish. The race starts at 5:00AM on July 30th. Competitors must remain inside cutoff times at each of the aid stations and complete the entire course within the 30-hour time limit to avoid disqualification. Burning River has been selected by USA Track & Field as the U.S. 100-Mile Trail National Championship for 2011.
Since it is so close to the Cleveland and Akron metropolitan areas, spectators can easily access the course at many points. Popular observation points include the busiest aid stations -- Station Road Bridge, Boston Store, Pine Hollow and Everett Covered Bridge -- most of which runners pass through twice. If you live in the area, please consider coming out to watch the race and support the competitors. In addition, the race organizers are always in need of more aid station volunteers and course marshals. If you are interested in volunteering, contact the race director (details are available on the BR100 website).
